“Objects subjects”: two collectable engravings and a book.
This combined stratagem, in keeping with the playful side of Prats/Ruibal’s proposal, allows us to wonder:
How far can Ruibal’s human figures and Prats’s spaces, objects empathize?
Can these “subjects” talk with those “objects” in a harmonious plane?
How “subject” are the “objects” in question?
Interrogating these honorable engravings of extreme graphic quality and prodigious plastic expressiveness, we can wonder about all the covert variations prefigured by this synopsis describing what will come later and is already being outlined. “Gravadets”, as a Catalan friend of mine would say upon seeing them, urging us to wait for more, in honor of the construction of some sort of messed-up almighty tarot.
Likewise, mystery is kept in left and right pages of this book. They’re paper mirrors in which we even get to see ourselves, the readers. Brief texts, very brief texts, as elliptical keys, enhance its evocative potential as a whole.
The truth is that these collectable engravings (hand signed by their authors, as must happen with any engraving worth being called so) and this book (that will be autographed by Prats and Ruibal for all those who ask) arise as a four-handed challenge, making it easy to understand why our two friends are already dealing the cards for their new combined games (perhaps this is why I associated their small format engravings with an ad hoc tarot?).
What is not so easy to understand is the woven maze our artists are committed to.
I’ll finish as I started, with a couple of questions:
What visual magic gives birth to the complicity of these collectable engravings, these first copies of, I insist, an almost secret tarot?
Which are the spring mechanisms that get us involved in the content of this book, up to the point of getting back to its pages over and over again?
What makes this whole formed by engravings and book so harmonic, so complementary?
Let each one give their own answer as they have them in front of their eyes. I would like to listen to them (read them?).
